2-Day Taklamakan Desert Camel Trekking and Camping Tour

Activities: This 2 days Taklimakan Desert Camel Trekking and Camping Tour perfectly suits to anyone who wants to do trekking and camping tour in the Taklamakan Desert around Kashgar. This trekking and camping tour involves riding camel, walking over sand dunes and if possible, light up a camp fire in the evening when wood is available.

On this two-day tour you will experience what it is like to travel in a camel caravan across the desert, sleeping out in the remoteness of the Taklamakan, where it is possible to view the stars as they were seen by Silk Road traders traveling to and from Kashgar to sell their goods 2000 years ago.

Day 01

Place & Transport:Kashgar to Yopurgha (130m)

Day’s Activities: Davakul Lake, Taklamakan Desert

Place to stay: Camp in Taklamakan Desert

Kashgar to Yopurga Distance 130 km

We will travel from Kashgar to Yopurga, the last village before the Taklamakan Desert. We will stop at Yopurga village to purchase food supplies for the trip and then continue to the edge of the desert, where we will then load our baggage onto camels and begin the trek through the desert in the afternoon. Dinner is provided, as are the tents for the night’s accommodation.

The evening is spent with the guide and camel man, preparing food and then, wood permitting, sitting around the campfire. If you are lucky your evening kebab could consist of a fresh desert snake!!

Day 02

Place & Transport:Taklamakan Desert to Kashgar (300Km)

Day’s Activities: Desert Sunrise, Camel Trek

Place to stay:

Beginning just after sunrise we will return on the camels to our desert entry point, mid-morning. Our vehicles will be awaiting our return and we will make our way back to Kashgar.

Notes for the TripIt is essential to bring sun cream for this trip. Sunglasses are also strongly advised.Long sleeve T-shirts are recommended, as are strong walking shoes.

All camping equipment (sleeping bags, tents etc) is provided.
