Kashgar Opal Village Market

Opal Village Market is located 45 km southwest of Kashgar and is the last village market before entering the Kunlun Mountain range on the Karakorum Highway.  It is about one hour’s drive from Kashgar. It is one of the best places to buy local fresh fruit and bread if you want to take a picnic in the mountains.

Since the market is a village market, it is also a good place to visit and take photos of local people and their market. If you are lucky enough to travel to this market on a Monday, you will be able to witness the busy village market just as the Kashgar Sunday Market used to be twenty years ago. It is also the birth place of the famous Uyghur linguist Mahmud Kashgari who first wrote “The Turkish Language Dictionary.”
